King Soup

King Soup is definitely a must have on rainy days or if you have a cold. King soup is slightly spicy and sour, and very nourishing. This soup has a more intensive taste the next day.

Ingredients

Ingredients for cooking:

  • 2 onions grated
  • 5 teaspoons tamarind pulp
  • 1 garlic bulb (grated)
  • 2 teaspoon ginger grated
  • 1 teaspoon jeera seeds
  • 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
  • 1 teaspoon coriander seeds
  • 1 teaspoon whole peppercorns
  • ½ teaspoon brown sugar
  • 2 carrots
  • 2 teaspoons vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons BGC chilli sauce
  • 1 dry chillies
  • 1½ teaspoon tumeric
  • 2 tomatoes grated (remove the skin)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 15g coriander
  • 125ml water

Serving Ingredients:

  • Coriander

Instructions

Method:

  1. Crust the pepper corns, garlic, ginger, pinch of salt, dry chilli, mustard, coriander and jeera seeds until a paste is formed.
  2. Fry the onions in the vegetable oil until golden, add sugar and tumeric.
  3. Add the crushed spices and the BGC chilli sauce.
  4. Let this fry for 2 minutes stirring continuously.
  5. Add tomatoes, carrots and tamarind.
  6. Let this simmer for 15 minutes.
  7. Add 60ml of water.
  8. Simmer for 3 minutes.
  9. Add a few coriander leaves.
  10. Ready to serve.

Serving:

  1. Can be served in a cup or in a soup bowl.
  2. Decorate with coriander.
  3. Serve with Puri.
